New trailer for Lockout

A new trailer has been released for sci-fi thriller Lockout, and it’s more than a little bit reminiscent of Kurt Russell actioner Escape From New York.
In it, Guy Pearce plays Snow, a tough-as-nails badass recruited by the President to rescue his daughter (Maggie Grace) from a deep-space prison. Unfortunately for Snow, it won’t be as easy as all that, as the inmates have taken over the asylum.
Check out the new trailer below…
From the looks of the above, Lockout has got a healthy amount of B-movie silliness about it, and Pearce is a great fit for the reluctant hero.
We particularly like his reaction to the details of his mission: “Don’t get me wrong, it’s a dream vacation, I mean I go into space, I get inside the maximum security nuthouse, get past all the psychos, save the president’s daughter (if she’s not dead already)… I’m thrilled that you would think of me.”
That final visual gag is a gem as well! Lockout opens in the UK on 13 April 2012.
New director and writer for The Crow reboot

Looks like things are up and running once more on the long-awaited remake of gothic classic The Crow, with a new director and screenwriter reportedly in talks to join the oft-delayed project.
F. Javier Gutierrez is the man being tapped to fill the director’s chair, having previously worked on fantasy crime drama Before The Fall. He will likely be joined by scribe Jesse Wigutow, who recently rewrote The Osterman Weekend for Summit Entertainment.
Not exactly household names then, but Relativity Media will just be pleased to have the project back on the rails again, having been entangled in a lawsuit with the Weinstein company over the rights to the character.
Yesterday saw an end to that particular dispute, with the two parties electing to settle out of court, and the green light given to Relativity to continue apace with their reinvention of the avenging undead rock-star.
With a new director and writer on the brink of signing on, hopefully we should soon get some idea of the direction the new film will take before the casting rumours start afresh. So long as Bradley Cooper isn’t in the title role (as was once rumoured), we’ll give it a chance…
New trailer for Mirror Mirror

Relativity media has sensibly decided to release a new international trailer for Snow White saga Mirror Mirror, after the first, uber-camp teaser set about irritating the hell out of anyone unlucky enough to watch it.
Fortunately, the new trailer isn’t half as aggravating as the original, with a little more exposition included to distract from the slapstick. Not that you’d exactly describe it as grown-up, but at least this one isn’t adult kryptonite.
Take a look at the new trailer below…
What’s happened to the old, “Snow White? Snow who? Snow way!” routine, we hear you ask? Well that’s just one of many dud jokes that appear to have been swept under the carpet this time around, although Armie Hammer’s troubling horny-puppy act is still present and correct.
In fairness, had we not already seen the first trailer, this would look like a perfectly acceptable fantasy romp aimed squarely at the family market. And for all we know, that earlier footage might not be truly representative of the final cut.
That said, we’re still erring towards Snow White And The Huntsman in this year’s fairytale face-off. Mirror Mirror opens in the UK on 16 March 2012.
Terminator 5 will be rated R

A quick update on the Terminator 5 project this morning, with financier Megan Ellison confirming that the film will represent a return to the R-rated mindset of the original film.
“We can’t really tell you guys anything about Terminator,” said Ellison on her Twitter feed, “BUT it will be an R rated film as God and James Cameron intended.”
It’s news that will come as a relief to fans of the franchise, particularly after the blood and thunder was toned down for recent instalment Terminator: Salvation.
Hopefully this good news will soon be followed up by an announcement confirming a new director. Fast Five’s Justin Lin was initially attached to the position, before commitments to the next Fast & Furious movie meant he was forced to drop out.
We’ve also got no word on casting at this stage, although we won’t be alone in hoping that Arnold Schwarzenegger will be involved in some capacity. Terminator 5 is tentatively expected to arrive at some point in 2014.
Two new TV spots for Wrath Of The Titans

Wrath Of The Titans is heading up our action movie special in this month’s Total Film, and handily, there are two new TV spots to give you a clearer idea of what to expect from the sword-swinging sequel.
It’s fair to say the new teasers are heavy on action, with Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson explaining the gravity of the situation to a bemused-looking Sam Worthington. “Behold the end of the world,” laments Neeson. “Prepare for oblivion,” snarls Fiennes.
Check out both the new spots in one go, below…
As you can see, the set-pieces look nothing short of spectacular, with the newly-escaped Titans wreaking havoc across Ancient Greece. One thing seems certain: anyone hungering for mythical monsters will surely leave the cinema satisfied.
Directed by Battle Los Angeles helmer Jonathan Liebesman and co-starring Rosamund Pike, Toby Kebbell and Bill Nighy, Wrath Of The Titans opens in the UK on 30 March 2012. And it might be a little bit epic…

Evangeline Lilly talks The Hobbit

Alongside all the old Middle-earth faces lining up to return for The Hobbit are a host of all-new players to become acquainted with. One of these is Tauriel, played by Lost’s Evangeline Lilly who was been speaking to Entertainment Weekly about what we can expect from her character.
Tauriel is one of the Elves of Mirkwood, and from the sounds of things, she knows how to handle herself in a fight.
“She is a warrior,” confirms Lilly. “She’s actually the head of the Elven guard. She’s the big shot in the army. So she knows how to wield any weapon, but the primary weapons that she uses are a bow and arrow and two daggers. And she’s lethal and deadly.”
However, we may have to wait until 2013 to see Tauriel in all her arse-kicking glory, as Lilly says she features in the second film a lot more than she does in the first.
“She’s not in the first film very much,” says Lilly. “She comes into the first film near the end, and has a very small part to play. Her role in the second film is much more involved. Although, I have to say, when I first read the scripts and took the job, she had a lot less going on in the second film. I think the role is becoming a bit more demanding that I had expected it to be. There’s a lot more for me to do now, which is a lot of fun, but it’s a little more pressure.”
Clearly Peter Jackson was impressed by what he saw, and decided to make more room for the bow-wielding warrior. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens in the UK on 14 December 2012.
New image for Prometheus

The steady drip-feed of Prometheus promotional material continues apace, with a new still of that mysterious stone head surfacing online.
The new image tells us little more than the original batch of pictures did, but it does afford us a look at the giant statue from a different perspective. What are those little pods surrounding it? And what does the statue represent?
Ridley Scott is keeping all such details closely under-wraps, but that hasn’t stopped our anticipation growing by the week. Whereas the constant stream of Dark Knight Rises images continually threatened spoilers, the new Prometheus pics are cryptic enough to excite discussion without giving anything away.
The film will star Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba and Charlize Theron as a crew of intergalactic explorers who encounter more than they had bargained for when attempting to learn more about the history of the Earth.
Prometheus will open in the UK on 1 June 2012. We’ve got it marked on the calendar alongside The Dark Knight Rises and The Hobbit as one of the three most exciting films of the year…
Monty Python cast will reunite for Absolutely Anything

Silly walk fans rejoice, for the Monty Python cast will soon be reuniting on the big screen. However, it won’t be for a new Monty Python film, but for animation Absolutely Anything.
The film, set to be directed by Terry Jones, will combine live action sequences with CGI animation, and will tell the story of a man granted the power to do anything he likes by a group of benevolent aliens.
“It’s not a Monty Python picture,” clarified Jones to Variety, “but it certainly has that sensibility.” The Pythons will voice various different characters, with Michael Palin, John Cleese and Terry Gilliam all having signed on.
Jones also expects Eric Idle to join the production sooner rather than later. In addition to the Python crew, Robin Williams is also in place to lend his voice to a talking dog named Dennis.
Absolutely Anything is slated to go into production this spring. And who know, if things go well, we might get another full-blown Monty Python production after all…
Oscar nominations: The Artist leads the way

The nominations for the 2012 Academy Awards have been announced, with The Artist leading the way with five nominations in major categories, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor.
The announcement wasn’t peppered with shocks, although there were one or two surprises along the way, with Gary Oldman receiving a surprise nomination for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, but Michael Fassbender missing out for Shame.
Drive was one of the highest profile films to be passed over (gettnig just one nod for Sound Editing), whilst Tintin was overlooked in the Animated Film category. Meanwhile, Melissa McCarthy garnered a rare supporting actress nod for a comedy performer, having been recognised for her sterling work in Bridesmaids.
Hugo got the most nominations overall (11), with The Artist following closely behind (10). Transformers: Dark Of The Moon and The Tree Of Life are neck and neck with three each.
